No clear answer exists, although we may tend to lean one way or the other.
#GivingTuesday is this week and we’ve been posting about the different ways in which women entrepreneurs give — to needy populations, to our environment, and others.
Adam Grant wrote the book (literally) on giving and taking.
This great article from Psychology Today notes that “Grant divides the working world into three groups of people: Givers, Takers, and Matchers. Givers seek out ways to be helpful and give to others. Matchers play ‘tit for tat’— they reciprocate and expect reciprocity. Takers focus on getting as much as possible from others.”
At the end of the day, those who give will get more in the long run. But, if you continually give to people who take advantage of your generosity or you find that you’re surrounding yourself with too many takers and matchers, perhaps you need to re-think your relationships.
May we give you more on the topic?
