Michele Hoskins, Founder of Michele Foods Inc., sees a large spike in her syrup business since Aunt Jemima has been taken off the shelves for the brand’s racial origin and connotation.
Hoskins took her family’s secret syrup recipe from her basement and into 400 retail chains. She became the first minority supplier for Denny’s and Walmart.
Her grit helped build her syrup brand into a large company that has partnered with companies such as Sara Lee and General Mills and her syrups are now carried in 8,000 stores worldwide.
